Classic Boba Milk Tea Recipe with Brown Sugar Pearls
Boba milk tea is the drink that carried a local tea habit around the world — and the one most people still order first to size up a new shop. It's also a staple almost every boba and bubble tea shop keeps on the menu: the drink new shops open with, and the one regulars keep coming back for. It isn't complicated: a base of brewed Earl Grey tea, chosen for its bright, citrusy bergamot lift, with chewy tapioca pearls steeped in brown sugar syrup (often called black sugar) for a dark, caramel finish, and just enough rich milk and cream to soften the edge. The milk rounds off the tea's slight bitterness without ever covering the Earl Grey underneath. Bubble tea, milk tea, classic boba milk tea — the name shifts from city to city, but the appeal holds: smooth, milky tea against that unmistakable chew, familiar in every sip. As a beverage ingredient brand, from the Earl Grey tea leaves to the pearls, this is the drink we build everything else around.

🏷 Tips

Adjust the sweetness by adding sugar as desired.
You can choose different types of Tapioca Bobas, such as small or big.
Try a different black tea base. Earl Grey is the classic, but this recipe is an easy one to make your own — a malty Assam makes it bolder, a Ceylon keeps it bright and brisk, and a roasted oolong or black tea blend adds more depth. Swapping the tea leaves is the simplest way to give your milk tea a signature that's yours.
Serving it hot: The same recipe works warm — brew the Earl Grey strong as usual, gently warm the milk instead of using ice, and stir them together. Add the cooked pearls last and keep them in warm syrup so they stay soft.
